Views on sexual and reproductive health and rights present a mixed picture in seven Ouagadougou Partnership countries

[Lire la version en français]

This Afrobarometer dispatch analyzes public perceptions of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in seven countries of the Ouagadougou Partnership: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Togo. Based on surveys conducted between 2024 and 2025, it highlights significant support for women’s autonomy regarding marriage, for pregnant girls to continue their education, and for sex education in schools.

The report reveals, however, more divided opinions regarding access to contraception and voluntary termination of pregnancy, with significant variations across countries. It also highlights the persistence of inequalities between women and men in education, employment, economic resources, and decision-making.

This publication offers valuable insight into the social dynamics influencing progress on SRHR in French-speaking West Africa and serves as a useful resource for policymakers, partners, and development actors.
